Australian-listed explorer Aldoro Resources Ltd has sent ripples through the Southern African mining sector with the announcement of a high-grade mineral discovery at its Kameelburg project in central Namibia. Situated in the strategically significant corridor between Otjiwarongo and Omaruru, the project has yielded substantial deposits of niobium and strontium. This discovery marks a pivotal moment for the region’s extractives industry, as the global demand for “technology metals” continues to soar, driven by the dual imperatives of the green energy transition and advanced materials manufacturing.
The geological significance of the find is matched by its commercial potential, with recent drilling results indicating that the deposit is both larger and more valuable than initial estimations suggested. Strontium remains a critical component in the fabrication of high-performance magnets, essential for the next generation of electronic devices, while niobium serves as an indispensable additive for enhancing the structural integrity and thermal resistance of high-grade steel. The intersection of these two minerals at Kameelburg positions the project as a potential heavyweight in the global critical minerals supply chain.
In light of these promising results, Aldoro’s board has moved swiftly to capitalise on the momentum, securing N$39 million in guaranteed funding to accelerate development. This capital injection is earmarked for an expanded drilling campaign designed to delineate the full extent of the ore body and assess the economic viability of a large-scale commercial mining operation. The transition from exploration to feasibility testing represents a major de-risking milestone for the company, as it seeks to transform this central Namibian site into a world-class production hub.
The discovery at Kameelburg further cements Namibia’s reputation as a premier destination for strategic mineral investment on the continent. By identifying high-grade deposits of metals essential for modern infrastructure and high-tech applications, Aldoro is not only enhancing its own portfolio but also contributing to the broader industrialisation goals of the Namibian economy. As the company moves into its next phase of rigorous testing, the mining community will be watching closely to see if Kameelburg becomes the blueprint for future technology-metal successes in the region.
Regarding the strategic expansion of the project and the confidence shown by investors, the company’s leadership emphasised that the find has fundamentally changed the scope of their operations, stating: “The company’s board has revealed that its latest drilling exercise showed the mineral deposit is of a substantial size and quantity, which has turned out to be more valuable than expected.”
